Mount Makalu Expedition

Information

Mount Makalu is one of the impressive peaks in the Himalayas and the fifth highest peak in the world which is 8481 meters above sea level.  This spectacular mountain peak lies to the east of Mount Everest. The mountain is also interesting because the border demarcation between Nepal and Tibet passes through the summit ridge of this mountain so only one side of this mountain lies in Nepal and the other, northern, side lies in Tibet.

Apart from its impressiveness this mountain is highly technical mountain to climb. As the mountain is shaped as a pyramid and has four very sharp ridges, climbing expedition is a real and massive challenge to the adventurers. Despite the technical difficulties, Makalu was successfully climbed to the top for the first time in 1955 and successfully summited several times since. As a technically very difficult mountain, Makalu has the record of 22 fatalities so far. In spite of being a difficult mountain to climb, Makalu attracts many expeditions every year.
