The stunning mountain peaks seen from this homeland of the famous Sherpas are… This homeland of famous climbing tribe Sherpa, who have the roots centuries back into Tibet, has become the ethnic Sherpa town for ages now when they migrated to the Everest region crossing the Himalayas.
Development of tourism activities in the Everest region has brought a significant change in the social and economic lives of Sherpa community as they have been the most preferred climbing assistants and trekking guides. All local Sherpa households of Namche bazar have been benefitted from the tourism industry as they have been able to run hotels at their own hometown.

Day 05: Namche – Thame 3800 m
Our trek for the day starts after breakfast and heads towards Thame to the west from Namche. The walk along the river valley to the famous Sherpa village of Thame is astoundingly beautiful. This small village of Sherpa community has brought many legendary mountaineers to the world. The childhood home of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, the first man to summit the Everest along with Sir Edmund Hillary, is also the birthplace of record holder Everest summiteer Appa Sherpa who has 21 successful Everest Summits on his bag. Thame was also a year round village on the salt trading route that stretched from Tibet to India via Nepal. We are going to stay overnight in such a beautiful village of legendary mountaineers and historic importance.
Day 06: Thame – Lunghden 4380m
About six hours long walk today takes us to Lunghden on a gradual elevation gain during the walk. The walk today brings us face to face with the landscape above tree lines. So we will be walking mostly on the barren land without any trees and is a different experience of the walk than what we have covered so far on the trek. We will also have views of the Himalayas in distance. Once we reach Lunghden which is an easy base to do the Renjo La pass tomorrow, we stay overnight at a lodge.

We take our day to explore the majestic beauty of Gokyo village and surrounding wonders. We take an early morning hike up to Gokyo Ri at the elevation of 5483 meters above sea level to enjoy a spectacular view of Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu. We walk back down to Gokyo and make an afternoon walk to the Fifth Lake and later explore Nagjumba Glacier.
After spending an incredible day in and around Gokyo, we spend overnight here at Gokyo itself.
Day 09: Gokyo – Dragnag 4700m
Comparatively a short walk today, we trek towards Dragnag via the third lake. The walk takes us past glacial moraine and shortly to Dragnag thereafter. After the beautiful short walk of the day, we reach Dragnag and explore the place for the rest of the day or simply take a leisurely time to rest.
Stay overnight at Dragnag.
Day 10: Dragnag – Cho La 5420m – Dzonghla 4830m
It’s a long day today which takes us to Dzonghla for overnight stay. The walk goes past a high Himalayan pass called Cho La at the elevation of 5420 meters above sea level. Today is not only a long day of trek but also a difficult walking day. The day starts early to trek up towards Cho La pass passing through huge boulders. We walk on narrow and icy path through the pass thus have to be extra careful not to slip. After crossing the pass, we descend down towards Dzonghla where we spend overnight today.
Day 11: Dzonghla – Lobuche 4940m
Today we are going to meet the regular Everest base camp trekking trail when we reach Lobuche for our overnight stay. We are heading closer to the base camp of Everest as we walk further ahead towards Lobuche along the Khumbu valley. Once we reach Lobuche, we will meet trekkers making their way to the Everest base camp along the regular trekking trail to the base of the world’s highest mountain.
Day 12: Lobuche – Gorakshep – Everest Base Camp
We walk to Gorakshep from Lobuche today. The trail traverses up and down on the mountains and glacial moraine. Once we reach Gorakshep, we take lunch at the tea house we are staying tonight and proceed towards Everest Base Camp in the afternoon. We walk to the epic base of the highest mountain in the world. We walk to the new base camp of the Everest which is different than the old one where Hillary and Tenzing had camped before starting on their adventure journey towards the summit of the highest peak in the world.
After spending some quality time at the base camp, from where we can inhale fresh air from stunning mountains of Pumori, Khumbutse and Nuptse, we start our way back to Gorakshep for the stay overnight.
Day 13: Gorakshep – Kalapatthar 5643m – Lobuche
We go for an early morning hike up to the stunning view point of Kalapatthar at the elevation of 5545 meters above, which is also the highest elevation gain on this trek, for an excellent panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks right in front of us. Later we descend to Gorakshep and have our breakfast. We proceed on the trek for the day down to Lobuche to stay our overnight there.
Day 14: Lobuche – High Camp 5400m
We trek to High camp today walking past the Lobuche base camp. As we walk along the glacial path, we are stunned with the spectacular view of Himalayan peaks of Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Kangtega etc. After going past the base camp, our trail turns into rocky moraine that leads us to the high camp. Once we reach the high camp, we settle on our tents and our pre climbing orientation begins.
On the orientation, we will talk about all the climbing techniques and use of climbing equipment. As a group adventure, we will feel motivated by the expectation of each other in the group, their skills and determination for the adventure. Doing so, the day will allow us ample time to well acclimatize for the summit attempt that lays ahead of us.
Day 15: High Camp – Summit 6119m – High Camp
The day for us starts really early today almost right after midnight. As we have to be at the summit before noon, we need to start early. High mountains are extremely windy thus dangerous in the afternoon. So we try to be on the summit as early as possible in the calm morning. The first section of our walk towards the Lobuche peak summit goes on the rocky surface and the second section is tricky icy one. The second surface climb needs the help of climbing rope which will be fixed by our climbing guide. The snowy surface has several crevasses so it is highly important and necessary that we follow the guide’s instruction like a small children do of their parents. Eventually, after the strenuous effort and dodged will power, the summit of the Lobuche peak is blessed to us. We celebrate the achievement of the summit, enjoy some quality time at the peak and take pictures. The panoramic view of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Pumori, Lhotse, Nuptse and many other Himalayan peaks is something that lures us to stay on the top. But we know we have to head back down before it starts getting the blow of wind so we start making our way down towards the high camp.
Stay overnight at high camp
Day 16: Reserve Day
This contingency day ensures our unhindered and successful climb because of some unforeseen circumstances like bad weather for the climb or flight delays etc.
Day 17: High Camp – Pangboche
We start our way down on the trek after breakfast at the high camp. We come back to Lobuche to meet the regular Everest Base Camp trekking trail and walk further down to Pangboche to stay overnight there. On reaching Pangboche, we check into a guest house and relax.

We take our breakfast at our lodge in Pangboche and start the trek for the day to Namche. The walk takes us via Tengboche where we can visit a monastery and explore the surround for a while until our lunch is ready. After lunch at Tengboche, we start our descent towards Namche bazar through beautiful serene forested area full of juniper and rhododendron trees. Following the trail along the Dudh Koshi river gorge, we still continue further down towards our destination for today. Our day will be even more beautiful if we get chance to see some wildlife during our walk. On reaching Namche after around five hours of walk, we check into a lodge and relax.
Stay overnight at Namche bazar.
Day 19: Namche – Lukla 2800m
Today we map the Everest trail all the way back down to Lukla. We take the same trail we took to go up and come across several suspension bridges and walk past several local villages. Dudh Koshi River flow adds more beauty on the trail and makes the walk more enjoyable. And we eventually reach the town of Lukla where our trekking and expedition adventure comes to end.
We bid farewell to our supporting crew members expressing our thankfulness for everything they did to take us to the base camp of the world’s highest peak and to the summit of Lobuche peak and bring us back safely. We stay overnight at Lukla today waiting for the flight back to Kathmandu tomorrow.
Day 20: Lukla – Kathmandu

Before boarding the plane, we will have a look on the Everest region and be grateful for offering us such incredible days which will stay in memory forever.
