Tiji Festival 2017

Tiji Festival Trekking to the magnificent upper Mustang region is one of the beautiful cultural trekking experiences in the world. Tiji Festival is a very important festival celebrated in Lo Manthang of Upper Mustang. The festival is celebrated by the Buddhist communities living there praying for the world peace to prevail. The festival is associated with the story where a devil causing troubles to local people back in the ancient times is killed by an incarnation of Buddha. End of evil brought peace and happiness in the area.

Although the main focus of this particular trip is to enjoy the festival, you can also enjoy the rugged mountain landscape, trekking through sandy trails, wondering over the caves on the cliffs, being amazed at the crystalline skyline over the pristine mountains; all these fascinating mountain charms pour only a magic.

Upper Mustang trekking is a challenging trek in terms of the infrastructural facilities. The remoteness of the mountains has resulted into the lack of good accommodation and other facilities but that is the strength of this trekking region. Staying away from all worldly luxuries for few days amongst the most beautiful mountain landscapes is a rewarding experience.

As a controlled region, Upper Mustang trekking charges a high royalty compared to the normal trekking routes which applies to this Tiji Festival Trekking as well. A royalty of USD 500 is to be paid to obtain a special permit to trek into this area. Camping treks are incredible in this region although staying in basic tea houses in an option.
